XDict 0.2.0

The history and learning programme. XDict 0.2.0 turns the dictionary from something you consult into something that remembers what you read and helps you learn it. All of it happens on your Mac: the reading history, notes and grades live in a local append-only log, and dictionary text never leaves the machine.

Reading history#

• Every finished lookup can be recorded, with the sentence it came from, so a card shows the word in context rather than a bare headword.
• A menu-bar item opens the history drawer on the display it is on: a primary click shows the history, a secondary or control click opens the menu. Escape or a click elsewhere closes it.
• A card can be removed, and put back with the drawer's Undo. A removal is a tombstone that carries none of the sentence.
• Settings ▸ Learning holds the switch and the two language sets: what is recorded, and what the drawer shows.

Review, notes and reminders#

• The review window shows a card, your note and the four answers. Scheduling is FSRS-6, ported from the published specification.
• Notes can be written from the review window and from a history card. A note keeps evidence — the edition and a hash of the definition — never the definition itself.
• Reminders are planned from the due count and delivered through the system's notification centre.
• Two devices can grade the same revision offline. Those cards are marked as conflicts, leave the queue, and are settled by you: keep one answer, and the others are retracted with everything that descended from them.

Your data#

• Export writes the log as one versioned JSON document: evidence and readings, no dictionary content.
• Erase confirms first, rewrites the log, and reports what it cleared and what only macOS can reclaim.
• Sync uses a folder you choose (iCloud Drive, WebDAV, or any folder): each device merges the other's log and writes its own back. Dictionary files themselves never travel.

Also in this release#

• The menu-bar item is the app's own, so a right click can open a menu while a left click opens the history. The history drawer is docked at the display's edge in Liquid Glass, with its slide running on its own animation.
• A click that dismisses the look-up panel now reaches the app it was clicked in.
• Privacy panes are named as macOS 27 names them (Device Control and Data Access, Screen & System Audio Recording).
• An Apple dictionary source below this build's macOS floor now says which macOS it needs, in your language, instead of disappearing from the list.

Install#

• Download XDict-0.2.0.dmg below, open it, and drag XDict to Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.
• Requires macOS 27 or later on Apple Silicon.
