The minor number moves because of the first of these: it is a feature rather than a fix.
The phrase you did not know to look up. take something into account is not take, and nothing
in the sentence tells you to stop reading at the first word — that is exactly why you did not look it
up. XiaolaiDict now finds the span your sentence is holding and shows it beside the word, with the
dictionary's own meaning for it, and lets the context choose between the two. The publisher says
where a gap goes: 1,572 of NOAD's multi-word keys spell something, someone, one's or
oneself, so take it into account is found with your own words in the middle. turn down and
look after are filed bare, so splitting a plain phrasal verb is an inference about English and is
marked as one rather than weighed like a publisher's mark. Some idioms — beat around the bush,
cost an arm and a leg — are in no key in any form and only come out of the entry's body, so the
body is walked too. English only for now; Chinese has no spaces to tokenise and the bilingual's
multi-word keys are pinyin, so saying it worked there would be worse than the gap.
The words you read become the words you review. A sense you met can be enrolled, and what you
enrol comes back on a schedule: the memory curve is a port of the FSRS kernel, held to it by a
fixture that reproduces 2,000 of its transitions exactly rather than by trusting the constants. A
card shows the word, your own sentence, and which sense you met — NOAD 4/12 — and never the
answer until you ask for it. New words are rationed per day and the day starts at 04:00, so a late
night is still one day; work the ration is holding back is reported as held back rather than merged
into "due" or passed over in silence. There is a library for everything you have saved, with tags,
search, pausing, archiving, undo, export, and a permanent erase that counts what it will remove
before it offers to. A card you wrote yourself is its own kind and needs no lookup. Practice is
recorded and inert: it moves no schedule and enters no retention figure, and a retention figure
states its denominator or is absent.
Which model answers is yours to choose. Every model you downloaded is kept until you remove it,
and a prune takes only what nobody chose — pruning to one used to delete a working 4B when a 9B
landed, on a Mac where the 9B could not load, which left nothing. Where the model you chose will not
fit right now, the largest installed one that does fit answers and says it is standing in. Weights
come from ModelScope by default and nothing depends on Hugging Face; the faster of the two is
preferred where both answer, and a host is never part of a model's identity, so adding one
re-downloads nothing.
Your dictionaries, for the language you read in. The index covers what indexes English explained
in a language you read — so a Chinese–Chinese dictionary and a script you do not read are left out
rather than filling the index with headwords you cannot ask about. Simplified and Traditional
Chinese are verified; Singapore and Malaysia are Simplified and Hong Kong and Taiwan are one
audience, because the region decides the script and then the script is what is compared.
Hover reads the word you pointed at. In a terminal, an image or anything else that exposes no
text, pointing anywhere in /Users/you/projects/thing looked up Users, and the second half of a
hyphenated compound gave you the first. Apple's text recognition cannot box anything finer than a
run of non-whitespace, so all six words of a path came back with one identical box and the leftmost
always won. The pointer now chooses which of them you meant. A hover over XiaolaiDict's own panel
