Mochi 0.9.0 brings saved expressions back for spoken review, shows which words of a practice attempt were caught, and adds Start Again for role-play.
- Spoken review. My Expressions shows how many saved expressions are due and starts a review. Each one shows its meaning with the words hidden; say it (recording is optional), reveal it, and grade yourself. Again sends it back to the start, Hard keeps its gap, and Good moves it on. Gaps are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 days, due at the start of your local day.
- Word check. After each practice attempt, Apple's on-device speech recognition marks every word as heard, heard as another word, not caught, or unclear, and lists any extra words. It is a hint, not a score. It needs macOS 26 or later, works in English only, and downloads Apple's speech model only when you choose to.
- Start Again. The five role-play templates show a Start Again button above the message field, and the Conversation menu offers it in any conversation. Mochi restates the scenario in one sentence and waits for you to confirm or correct it before beginning, even deep into a long conversation.
- Gentler coaching. Gentle and direct coaching correct at most one thing per reply, the mistake that most gets in the way of understanding, and always reply to what you said as well. They leave accent, style and casual speech alone, ask instead of correcting when the transcript may have misheard you, and stop correcting when you or the conversation's instructions ask them to. Fixes:
- A voice message that cannot be saved now stops before it is transcribed, and its recording is kept in the data folder as "Unsent voice message …" instead of being lost.
- A failed save no longer reports success, and practice no longer moves on after one.
- Saving no longer replaces the previous-copy backup twice in a row.
- A recording still in use can no longer be cleaned up after an unreadable earlier copy.
- A library opened through a symbolic link is saved through the link.
- Settings now say that Transcribe also uploads the recording of a thought.
The library format changes to version 5. It adds review state for saved expressions, the transcription model behind each voice message, and the transcriber's confidence in each part of an unedited transcript. On the first save, Mochi keeps your current library, byte for byte, as
library-before-review-v5.jsonin the data folder. Mochi 0.8.0 and earlier cannot open a version 5 library; to go back, quit Mochi and put that backup in place oflibrary.json. Changes made in 0.9.0 exist only in the version 5 library. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, notarized, and stapled.
