Mochi 0.8.0 adds characters, phrase buttons, greetings and a voice for each conversation.
- Characters. Mochi comes with three: Mochi, warm and thoughtful; Alex, curious and direct; and Pip, playful and imaginative. Create your own with a name, personality and voice in Manage Characters… (File menu). Choosing a character copies it into a conversation or template, so changing a character later never changes an existing conversation.
- A voice per conversation. Each conversation and template can speak in its own voice; without one, it uses the voice from Settings.
- Greetings. A conversation can open with its own greeting, spoken word for word when you start talking. Typing first skips it.
- Phrases. Up to six phrase buttons above the message field send their text with one click, without touching what you are typing.
- Seven new templates for talking about anything: Brainstorm with me, Think out loud, Rehearse a conversation, Make a story with me, Interview my character, Learn by teaching, and Remember a moment.
- MCP: conversations and templates gain the new settings, and
list_characterslists your characters. Fixes: - Mochi could open with no window after a session that ended hidden in the menu bar, and neither the menu bar icon nor the Dock could bring it back. It now always opens its window. If 0.7.1 shows no window, choose Window → Mochi, or update to 0.8.0.
- The conversation search field and the Desktop Mochi window title are now translated.
The library format changes to version 4. On first launch, Mochi keeps your current library, byte for byte, as
library-before-character-library-v4.jsonin the data folder. Mochi 0.7.1 and earlier cannot open a version 4 library; to go back, quit Mochi and put that backup in place oflibrary.json. Changes made in 0.8.0 exist only in the version 4 library. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, notarized, and stapled.
